Our Tangaroa design includes a blend of royal blue, black and turquoise coque feathers which has finished with white coque feathers and a 2in royal blue pātiki taniko band.
Tangaroa - God of the Sea. Tangaroa made laws to protect the ocean and its sea creatures “Tiaki mai i ahau, maku ano koe e tiaki”… ... We received their blessing to use the name, which is applied with the utmost respect and the understanding that all our oceans are connected.
Māori believe that water is an energy, with many moods. It can be calm and life-giving, or dangerous and destructive.
While blue conjures images of sky and sea, it’s also the color of bravery and dedication. Blue represents introspective journeys and symbolizes wisdom and depth of understanding. Blue represents the healing nature of water and the power of stormy seas.
Our designer kākahu are aesthetically beautiful, heirloom-quality taonga. They’re modern, high-fashion, and have featured in Vogue, Vanity Fair, Tatler and Glamour Magazine.
Our creations are wahine (female) Māori designed, and made by a whanau (family) business in Aotearoa (New Zealand). We follow tikanga (cultural customs) guidelines and guidance from kaumatua (elders).
